Labor for Pokkali Rice Farming

Allocate minimum of 50 MGNREG/VBGRAMG labor work days per year during April/May/June/July and Oct months exclusively for revival of fallow Pokkali farms. Farm work to include clearing of wild foliage along cheras (boundary bunds), strengthening cheras, reinforcing sluice gates, ploughing fields, sowing, nirathhal (spreading) and harvesting. The new VBGRAMG bill proposes 125 days work guarantee at average of Rs 400/day and requiring 40% funds contribution from State Government. Kerala State Government must step in and contribute the 40% to keep this lifeline alive for local village women labor force. Reduce existing 3 year fallow farm classification requirement to 1 year and extend support for at least 2 successive crop cycles. Migrant labor workforce (men) from outside Kerala must be thoroughly vetted, verified and made available for farm work by local Panchayath office.

Over 100+ local women labor across all wards of Ezhikkara are available for Pokkali farm work. Submit request below to allocate labor for your Pokkali farming needs.
